John Podesta is one connected government guy. With a law degree from Georgetown, he’s been a senior adviser to the president, White House Chief of Staff, and chairman of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. Oh, and one other thing: John Podesta believes the US government is hiding UFO evidence, and he wants it disclosed.
John Podesta is Serious About UFO Disclosure
The UFO Tweet
Podesta has been actively trying to achieve disclosure for some time, but public awareness of his beliefs and efforts came with a single tweet he sent in 2015, when serving as an adviser to president Barack Obama: “Finally, my biggest failure of 2014: Once again not securing the disclosure of the UFO files”. He ended the tweet with the hashtag #theTruthIsStillOutThere and a shout-out to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd. Dowd has gone on record as being skeptical of the 1997 US Air Force report released claiming that wreckage from the Roswell Incident was really just a downed spy balloon.
That tweet was a shot heard ’round the world, attracting a surprising amount of attention. It was covered by the Washington Post and UK’s The Independent (as well as Fox News, which seized the opportunity to lampoon Podesta, a Democrat). Ufologists and UFO enthusiasts cheered; here was a respectable government official who would completely validate the effort for disclosure.
He Had a History
The tweet wasn’t the first time Podesta had mentioned UFOs in public—way back in 2002, for example, he spoke at the National Press Club for an organization called Coalition for the Freedom of Information. “It is time for the government to declassify records that are more than 25 years old,” he told the crowd, speaking of alien visitation, “and to provide scientists with data that will assist in determining the real nature of this phenomenon.”
Later, in 2010, he wrote the Forward to the widely respected book UFOs: Generals, Pilots, and Government Officials Go on the Record, and again he addressed government UFO disclosure: “It’s an idea worth considering,” he writes, “and it is definitely time for government, scientists, and aviation exports to work together in unraveling the questions about UFOs that have so far remained in the dark. It’s time to find out what the truth really is that’s out there.”
Podesta Keeps on Tweeting
While acting as Chief of Staff for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, Podesta continued to use Twitter to discuss alien life and the UFO phenomenon. In September of 2015, he tweeted a message to actor Lena Dunham, who had interviewed Clinton for an online newsletter, saying, “Great interview, @lenadunham. But Lena, ask her about aliens next time!!”
Later, in January of 2016, a reporter asked Clinton about her views on UFOs and whether the Earth is being visited. ““I think we may have been,” she answered. “We don’t know for sure … I’m going to get to the bottom of it.” The response made news and encouraged UFO disclosure advocates worldwide.
Days later, Bloomberg reporter Jennifer Epstein sent a tweet quoting Clinton as saying that Podesta “has made me personally pledge we are going to get the information out” (on aliens and Area 51). Podesta quickly responded, tweeting back, “Just in time for the X-Files revival. #TheTruthIsOutThere”.
